I just installed Apache 1.3.31 on my W2K SP4 computer.
The installation of Apache 1.3.31 went well. I can use my browser to reach the root directory belonging to Apache. I downloaded PHP 4.3.9. I used the instructions to setup PHP by Julie C. Melloni. I am using her book to learn PHP.
When I type the URL http://127.0.0.1/phpinfo.php. All I get is the line in the file (phpinfo.php) which is:

phpinfo();
?>
I think that I should be receiving a little more than that! :)
I have reviewed what she outlined in her book twice. What am I doing wrong?

Do you have this line in your httpd.conf?
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
