[PHP-INSTALL] Install Hangs at configure on solaris 2.8

I’m trying to get 4.3.3 or 4.3.4 installed on a Solaris box.   Install script whittled down to bare bones:   ./configure --with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs --with-gd --with-zlib=/usr --enable-shared   configure step hangs at “checking base type of last arg to accept...” in some sort of loop.   spawns gazillions of procs like:   root 10710 10709  1 18:12:27 pts/1    0:00 cpp -lang-c++ -Asystem(unix) -Asystem(svr4) -Acpu(sparc) -Amachine(sparc) –Asys   I have no idea what to do to fix this.   Both versions fail at the exact same point.
