# configure --help | grep freetype
--with-freetype-dir[=DIR] GD: Set the path to FreeType 2 install prefix.
So it's not --with-freetype (umm, yes, this is a bit confusing).
As a side note, --enable-trans-sid and --enable-track-vars don't exist
anymore.
