GD is part of PHP 4.3.x. If you can snag an RPM for RedHat (Check RPMFind.net), that will most likely be the simplest way to upgrade your PHP. You can do this all via command line, as well, though I am not terribly knowledgeable about command-line RPMing, to guide you through which options you should use...
