Thanks, Rasmus, for your reply. I at least have a clearer idea of what I don't know now, and for that I do truly thank you. I guess I'll have to install the OpenLDAP client code and hope it doesn't conflict with the IBM LDAP client stuff that's already there.
I also got a direct personal response from someone with substantive LDAP-PHP linkage and interoperability experience. I have asked him to post this information.
