This is a not so good idea...When you compile the compiled files are for that system only. You would have better luck with rpms.

I have an account on a Compaq Raq server (running linux) and would like to use php. I do not have root access, the computer does not have php or a compiler. I would need to compile php on my own computer (running RedHat 7.2) and install resulting files in my home directory on the server manually. From what I have heard on this list and elsewhere, it should be possible to compile php on my computer and then install it. So far all I have not been able to get this to work. I've looked through the php manual, on phpbuilder, emailed someone who asked a similar question in 2000 (the email bounced) and am presently stuck as to how to do this. Does anyone know whether there there some instructions somewhere to do this? There probably are and its me not looking in the right place so please excuse me if I have missed something obvious. Thanks in advance for any help. Regards Chris -- PHP Install Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php
