Hi John. I think that the better solution to achieve the Compilation is to compile under a gcc cross compiler, like gcc For cygwin. So, go to cygwin.com and download the latest version Including gcc compiler. I hope I helped !

I am having this same problem, but I don't have Visual C++ to compile a new php_gd.dll (and I would rather just have the binary, rather than have to compile it). Does anyone know how to get a php_gd.dll with 1.8.4?
