Dear Chris, Thanks for the suggestion. There is progress, but I am still having problems. I renamed the file to testphp.php as you suggested and when opening the file in Internet Explorer, I still get a blank screen but there is a window that pops up just for a nanosecond - this is the standard IE window that is asking whether I want to open the file or save it to disk.
A view source now shows the following: <HTML></HTML> I'm still confused about whether Apache should report that PHP is installed or not. Currently, it is not.
