Thanks for your ideas, I was thinking in a complicated scheme using $fp =
fopen ("php://stdin", $hexkeynumber) ...
but I wasn't sure if that is better ...

I think your solution is much neatier ... then I just have to compare the
entered code with an id in the mysql database
