Why do you need it anyway?
auto_increment is a mySQL functionality to (listen this carefully) KEEP UNICITY WITHIN A TABLE. This is what they are needed for. I agree - it would look prettier having them even sequential, but that is behind the real point and it is not a "problem". You should make your application independent from "id" value - "id" should only serve you as a key to relate the data within application/database.
