Pffft you can't trust Java, JavaScript or anything on the server side at all. Since it's set by the browser (client) itself, the best you can do is test for it, and provide a fall back option.
For the bulk of users, this will be okay, because they're on IE. What you need to be carefull of is what effect your fall back has on the unknown browsers.
