Ahmed. If you changed the AllowOverride setting in httpd.conf, you will need to restart apache. I tried what I suggested here (on a RedHat 7.3 system) so I know its OK. In httpd.conf there can be many instances of AllowOverride, one per directory. Are you sure you changed the right one?
