Only one value from a msSQL field.

I have many values the same in a field and would like to know how i can select one of 
each (not mating).

$sql = "SELECT * FROM brands WHERE 1 ORDER BY `sId` DESC LIMIT 6";

lists everything ..

ANy help would be cool.
