If you want your home page to be a .php3 file then you must add index.php3 to your DirectoryIndex directive:
DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.cgi index.php3 index.php --- and so on. In addition, .php3 should be added to your AddType directive AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .php3 .php4 .phtml If you cannot access your httpd.conf file on your server, the same directives can be modified using a .htaccess file in the appropriate directive.
