You need to reconfigure PHP without the "--with-apxs" line in your configure script.

I have compiled php on a slack box
./configure --with-apxs=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs ......
make && make install
everything Fine
and .php pages are being parsed with php when called thru webserver(apache).
But I can not find any binary named "php"
which I need to run php scripts from shell.
