True!  I suppose that it's easier to NOT code them to look for <html> 
tags (I think IE uses the filename extension, actually), but it couldn't 
be a huge addition to the code.  Still, my biggest hangup with browsers 
is inconsistent CSS support.  My page looks completely different in 
IE5.1 Mac, IE 5 Windows, and IE 6 Windows... and I have to say that IE 
5.1 Mac renders it in the "correct" way, not version 6 as you might 
expect.
(I think.)

Browsers tolerate a little -too- much, but I do demand more than I 
should of HTML authors (I try to only use XHTML Strict).
