"$p" is trying to interpolate the value of the variable $p -- if you had full error reporting turned on, you would see a nonexistent variable error. Once more, there are several things you can do, of which the two most obvious are: * Use single quotes: echo '$p'; * Use a backslash: echo "\$p"; Cheers!
