I bought the Beta PDF of Pragmatic Ajax (http://www.pragmaticprogrammer.com/titles/ajax/?ajaxian). It actually has a chapter that walks you through creating a zooming movable map (ala Google Maps). Nice intro to Ajax too (and Frameworks). If you don't find a tutorial online somewhere I'd recommend that.
