I think that's the general idea behind PHP's autoload(): http://php.net/autoload Using a caching tool like APC or Zend Optimizer would be helpful in this area too: http://pecl.php.net/package/APC http://zend.com/store/products/zend-optimizer.php I think putting each function in it's own file is a bit drastic.
