just download the php4-cli deb package and install it, i think this should work, and correct me if it's a stupid idea.
and Sarge is ok for me, i'm running a production e-mail server for last 6 months with a heavy load on it, i'm using php4-cli on it for my 'home made' exim4 administration utility, no problem yet!! vk.
