This is my opinion only, but apache+PHP tends to be more reliable than IIS+ASP most of the time; I have seen IIS+ASP locked down and optimized well, however. Regarding versioning... I'm assuming you're meaning Sharepoint's ability to track changes to a page. If that's the worry... there are plenty of Wikis out there that do this already, and have been doing it for years. Phpwiki is only one, though probably the most well known. I believe Yawp does as well. As for "good for hobbyists"... well, I make a living at it... :-) And so do many thousands of other PHP developers.
