[PHP] str_replace - is it case sensitive

Is the str_replace function case sensitive, I cant seem to find any 
answer on the PHP manual website or in my books.

If it is, is there anyway to make it case insensitive so it can handle 
mIxEd CaSe woRdS in any combination?
