actually, having *everything* on one line can make things
inefficient, depending on the browser implementation on reading
lines from the socket.

But my point is that there are cases where html is WS sensitive:

  <pre>
    WS sensitive
  </pre>

  or
  <code style="white-space: pre;">
    if ($ws ) {
      indent;
    }
  </code>
