The cart is the part that holds the products and deals with payment, checkout, etc. The storefront is the part that displays the products. We ended up rolling our own storefront (which is really what the whole website is) on top of squirrelcart. Then I implemented a new cart which integrated with that.
The real problem with this is that the products have to be stored for both the storefront and the cart. No cart I have seen allows for this. Hmmm, perhaps I should make one to sell? ;-)
