Try beta3, or rc1-dev from snaps.php.net, if it works there, it'll work in 5.0, currently, it's bugfix only for RC1, and RC1 isn't very far from the release, so I really don't think anyting would get changed... Also, seems to me like objects and references are kinda the highest priority in 5.0 (along with XML support), but that's only my impression..
