Take a close look at OO programming. Class objects are great for reusing code and making cleaner code. The art of designing code is a mastered art which is why my white board is always messy ;) . Never the less, oject oriented programming is definately the way to go. Chapter 6 in the PHP and MySQL Web Development book has great real world examples on how class objects relate to one another.
