[PHP] Io Ports?

Hi,
Is it possible to access IO ports with PHP, specifically the parallel port.
I would like to do this with php, not printing functions, but access to the port, like 
being able to control LED's, etc.
I didn't see any functions in php for that so I think I probably have to use C or 
something.
