[PHP] Recompile GD ??

How can I do it ???  I installed jpeg-6b, and I readed that before recompile PHP(with 
option : --with-jpeg-dir=/.../jpeg-6b), I must recompile gd, its really necessary ? If 
si, how recompile gd.
