It is too late for the core, php 5.5 won't have this version bundled but the next version. However PECL releases will be done more often again to fill the features needs in the meantime, with compatibility with 5.3, 5.4 and 5.5. This version introduces a number of changes including Zip64 support (for large files) and UTF-8 support for file names, file comments and archive comments.
