Bug description: mysql api

Description:
------------
I'm sorry this isn't more of a *bug*; is there any chance PHP will support
the new functionality mysql 5+ provides, however more in the style the
older version provides? I understand that mysqli provides this, but I don't
necessarily want to deal with objects and the reason being is that I
usually write my own "wrapper" for a site (eg. so I can decide when and
what type of Exception to throw) and writing a class definition to deal
with an object just seems redundant. I usually end up reverting back to the
older mysql api.

I just find that mysqli isn't all that "improved" and provides less
freedom than it's predecessor.

Thanks for your time.
