Bug description: mail() function could return sendmail/SMTP error message

Description:
------------
the mail() function on UNIX systems calls sendmail (or whatever the admin
configures) which can return string from SMTP server on stderr. It could be
nice if mail() function could provide that string somehow, e.g. in
$php_errormsg etc...
