Cambridge Kant Reading Group
organisers: Angela Breitenbach, Christopher Benzenberg date/time: Fridays, from 4:15pm to 5:45pm zoom link: https://cam-ac-uk.zoom.us/j/98359560656 In the first Critique's Dialectic, Kant suggests that all our concepts and cognitions can be brought into one unified system. He also indicates that this cognitive system somehow presupposes nature being purposive –– a train of thought that he resumes in the third Critique. This term, we examine Kant's theory of systematicity. The goal is to reconstruct Kant's account and understand how it relates to Leibniz's notion of a universal science. Changing the policies from previous terms, attendees are expected to read the text before each session. We're also excited to announce a special session with Samantha Matherne (Harvard), who is giving a talk in week 5. If you'd like to (re-)join the group, please contact cp...@cam.ac.uk. 30 April Introduction to the Dialectic (A293-309/B349-B366) 7 May Book One of the Dialectic (A293-309/B349-B366) 14 May First Part of the Appendix (A642-668/B670-696) 21 May Second Part of the Appendix (A669-704/B697-732) 28 May Intermezzo: Talk by Samantha Matherne (Harvard) 4 June Introduction to the third Critique (5:171-197) 11 June Leibniz, tbd 18 June Leibniz, tbd
