Dear discursive desirers, Next week, the Meaning Reading Group returns to a classic scene of feminist philosophy of language: pornography.
In "Pornography, Discourse, and Desires", Elli Neufeld and Junhyo Lee go beyond belief, pushing our understanding of how pornographic speech not only influences people's beliefs, but might also change their desires. "Using tools from recent developments in discourse theory, [they] argue that pornography issues implicit directives, and thereby introduces bouletic components into the discourse." Join us next week to discuss! Please join us on Wednesday, September 9th, from 4.00 to 5.30pm UK time, for the discussion.
