Over the next few weeks, the Verstehen Colloquium will be discussing the work
of phenomenologist Edith Stein in her 1922 work The Philosophy of Psychology
and the Humanities (Geisteswissenschaften). We will explore how Stein builds on
Husserl's work to develop an account of individual (lived) experience and a
corresponding account of sociality, challenging prevailing approaches of the
time in psychology and the human sciences/studies, and perhaps offering a
distinct option for our own thinking about human experience.

Our first meeting on this text will be on Monday 20 July, 2-3:30 through Zoom.
We will begin by reading the First Treatise, Chapter I - we will be using the
Baseheart/Sawicki translation, but do feel free to use the original German.
Further information about the Verstehen Colloquium is available on our webpage
(where we will also be be positing the full proposed schedule of meetings from
next week onwards):

If you are interested in attending the sessions, please email Sen (sb2276) to
be put onto our mailing list, and to receive a Zoom invite to the next session.
Please also let us know if you need access to the text
