Dear linguistic ghostbusters,

A spectre is haunting philosophy: the idea that slurs have something like
'neutral counterparts'. But wait! Do we have good reason to distinguish pairs
of slurs and their 'neutral counterparts' from pairs like 'chick
flick'/'romantic comedy', 'stoner'/'cannabis user', or 'liberal'/'libtard'? If
we don't, might we explain all those pairs in one fell swoop by reference to an
overlap in extension and associated stereotypes? - And might this explanation
exorcise the phantom of neutral counterparts for good?! Find out more next
week, as we discuss Jen Foster's "Busting the Ghost of Neutral Counterparts".

Please join us next Wednesday, July 1st, from 4.00 to 5.30pm UK time, for the
discussion.
