Dear members of linguistic sub-communities, In the next session of the Meaning Reading Group, we will follow up on our discussion of hermeneutical impasses by focusing on another conflict in understanding - namely: semantic contestations. We will be joined by Deborah Mühlebach to discuss her exciting paper "Semantic contestations and the meaning of politically significant terms". There, she develops an inferentialist model of dominant and resistant discursive sub-communities, which aims to explain "the connections between political contestation, verbal derogation, and semantics" in cases of contentious terms such as 'black'.
Please join us next Wednesday, 17 June, from 4.00 to 5.30pm UK time, for the discussion. Please find the paper here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/szvt3q6k8hnr0co/M%C3%BChlebach%20-%20Semantic%20contestations%20and%20the%20meaning%20of%20politically%20significant%20terms.pdf?dl=0 And please find the Zoom invitation below: Meaning Reading Group https://zoom.us/j/95270195257 Meeting-ID: 952 7019 5257 The very best, Nikki _____________________________________________________ To unsubscribe from the CamPhilEvents mailing list, or change your membership options, please visit the list information page: http://bit.ly/CamPhilEvents List archive: https://lists.cam.ac.uk/pipermail/phil-events/ Please note that CamPhilEvents doesn't accept email attachments.
