This workshop aims to investigate how debates in aesthetics have
underappreciated implications for the philosophy of mind, and how
debates in the philosophy of mind have underappreciated implications for
aesthetics. For instance, what can philosophy of perception tell us
about the nature of aesthetic experience and aesthetic judgement? Do
images present a particular problem to theories of perceptual knowledge?
What can the relationship of artist to artwork tell us about the nature
of intention? What is the role of imagination in creating and observing
aesthetic objects?

Speakers:

Claire Anscomb (Kent): 'Look a Little (Chuck) Closer: Aesthetic
Attention and the Contact Phenomenon'

Alex Moran (Oxford): 'Aesthetic Experiences as Perceptual Experiences
and Acquaintance with Higher-Order Qualities'

Jack Shardow (Warwick): 'No Time to Move: Motion, Painting, and Temporal
Experience'

Maarten Steenhagen (Uppsala): 'Acquaintance and Aesthetic Knowledge'

Zoe Walker (Cambridge): 'Funny Looking: how humour can shape perception'
