Dear colleagues,

This year's Tarner Lectures will begin today Tuesday at 5.00.

They will be given by Professor Elliott Sober (University of
Wisconsin). (go to: http://sober.philosophy.wisc.edu)

The Lectures are entitled:

Solving Problems in the Philosophy of Science by using (some simple
ideas about) Probability

The Lectures will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, in the late
afternoons, this week and next week: as follows:

1. Tuesday 29 October, at 5.00 pm: The Problem of Induction 2.
Wednesday 30 October, at 5.00 pm: Ockham's Razor
3. Tuesday 5 November, at 4.00 pm: Realism, Empiricism, and
Instrumentalism
4. Wednesday 6 November, at 5.00 pm: Values in Science

The venue for all the Lectures is the Winstanley Lecture Theatre,
Trinity College. This is approached from Whewell's Court, which is 
opposite the cobbles at Great Gate, Trinity Street (so on the same side as 
Heffers bookshop)

Please note the early start, at 4.00 pm, for the third lecture.
