Dear all,

We're writing to give you advance notice of an informal reading group that
meets on Saturday mornings to read texts outside the mainstream of
(Cambridge) philosophy. In Lent Term, our theme is *French and Francophone
philosophy since the 1980s*.

Readings from previous terms may be found on our webpage:
https://nakulkrishna.com/schmilosophy/

We'll be reading such figures as Michèle Le Dœuff, Bernard Stiegler, Bruno
Latour, Chantal Mouffe, Gilles Deleuze, Didier Eribon, Jacques Rancière and
Quentin Meillassoux. No previous knowledge of – or indeed sympathy for –
these thinkers is expected. We aim to approach texts from an unfamiliar
tradition open-mindedly, but without deference.

The readings will shortly be available on our webpage in English
translation. Black polo-necks are strictly optional; Gauloises, I'm afraid,
are forbidden.

We meet at Robinson College on Saturday mornings in term-time. The official
meeting lasts from 1130 to 1230, but there'll be room for informal
conversation, with coffee and biscuits, on both sides. There's no
expectation that you'll attend all sessions. The first meeting next term
will be on Saturday, the 19th of January 2019.

We're currently moving our mailing list to a different platform, so please
let me know, by replying to this message, if you'd like to receive our
e-mails (never more than two a week during term – a notification and a
reminder). This is so *even if* you're currently on our mailing list.

Please let me know if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you.

With best wishes,
Nakul Krishna and Maarten Steenhagen
