Dear all, Here's a reminder for those of you interested in aesthetics, computer science or interactions between the two:
**** Please join us for this term’s last Digital Cultures seminar, which will take place in *the Wine Room, King's College, Thursday 15th June, 5.30pm*. Computer scientist *Alan Blackwell *(Computer Laboratory, Cambridge) and philosopher of art *Derek Matravers* (Open University) will discuss how we look at images in a session entitled: *Technical-cultural modes of close reading for visual representations: Comparing critical practices* This experimental seminar aims to bring into dialogue several ways of looking at images. It will contrast the interpretive traditions of interaction and engineering design with a selection of art historical approaches, from psychology, to semiology, to theoretical frameworks such as Marxism and Feminism. A brief introductory lecture will be followed by an analysis of several sample works. *Prof. Alan Blackwell* (Computer Laboratory, University of Cambridge) is a specialist on the design of visual representations for the digital domain, including user interface design, statistical visualisation, performance notation and the digital arts. *Prof. Derek Matravers* (Department of Philosophy, Open University) specializes in aesthetics and the philosophy of art. His recent publications include *Empathy* (Polity, 2017) and *Fiction and Narrative* (OUP, 2014). All welcome. _____________________________________________________ To unsubscribe from the CamPhilEvents mailing list, or change your membership options, please visit the list information page: http://bit.ly/CamPhilEvents List archive: http://bit.ly/CamPhilEventsArchive Please note that CamPhilEvents doesn't accept email attachments.
