Dear all,

The Moral Sciences Club's next meeting will be held on Tuesday 15th
November. We are delighted to welcome our very own Adam Bales, who will be
giving a talk entitled 'Decision-Theoretic Pluralism: Causation, Evidence,
and Indeterminacy'. Here is the abstract:

"Decision theorists have long been involved in a debate over whether we
should accept causal decision theory or evidential decision theory as our
best theory of rational choice. However, instead of accepting one of these
theories at the expense of the other, an alternative would be to accept
that both theories play a role in the true account of rational choice. In
this paper, I defend a pluralist account of this sort. In particular, I
argue that rational permissibility is a vague notion, with EDT and CDT each
corresponding to one sharpening of this notion."

The meeting will be held at 2:30 until 4:15, in the Barbara White Room at
Newnham College, and will be followed by tea and coffee.

For those who have not yet paid, there is a yearly membership fee of £7.50
for students and £15 for others, or a one-off fee of £3 (£2 for students).
