Dear all, *AGM and Club Photo*
Next week's meeting of the Moral Sciences Club will be preceded by the annual general meeting and the club photograph. The club photograph will be taken at 2 o'clock so we ask those who wish to be in the photo to arrive at five minutes to the hour. The photograph will take place on the steps near the pond outside of Sidgwick Hall (see the map below for an approximate sense of location). The AGM will take place at 2.20 in Sidgwick Hall. *Louise Hanson at the Moral Sciences Club* Starting at 2.30, Louise Hanson (Cambridge University) will then speak at the meeting of the club with a talk titled "The Real Problem with Evolutionary Debunking Arguments". The abstract for this talk is below: *There is a substantial literature on evolutionary debunking arguments (EDAs) in metaethics. According to these arguments, evolutionary explanations of our moral beliefs pose a significant problem for moral realism, specifically by committing the realist to an unattractive pessimism about the prospects of our having moral knowledge. * *In this paper I argue that EDAs exploit an equivocation between two distinct readings of their central claim. One is plausibly true but has no epistemic relevance, and the other would have epistemic consequences for realism, but is false. * This meeting will be held on Tuesday the 17th May from 2.30 until 4.15 in Sidgwick Hall in Newnham College. The meeting will be followed by tea and coffee in the philosophy faculty. Note that this is the final meeting for the academic year. For those who have not yet paid, there is a yearly membership fee of £7.50 for students and £15 for others (alternatively, students can pay a one-off fee for the meeting of £2 and others can pay a one-off fee of £3). These fees can be paid online (at the following link: *http://onlinesales.admin.cam.ac.uk/browse/extra_info.asp?compid=1&modid=1&catid=75&prodvarid=87 <http://onlinesales.admin.cam.ac.uk/browse/extra_info.asp?compid=1&modid=1&catid=75&prodvarid=87>*) or in cash on the day. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
