Dear all,
This Thursday (25 Feb) at the Serious Metaphysics Group, Kyle Mitchell will be presenting on 'Two Types of Indispensability' (abstract below). 1.00-2.30pm at the Philosophy faculty board room, as usual. Best wishes, Li Li -- ABSTRACT This talk looks at two arguments: the Quine-Putnam indispensability argument for the existence of mathematical entities and Sider's recent indispensability for the world's having quantificational structure. I then make a distinction between two types of indispensability agruments: practical and metaphysical indispensability arguments. With this distinction in place, it becomes apparent that the original arguments only get us as far a practical, rather than metaphysical indispensability. -- Li Li Tan PhD (Probationary) in Philosophy St Catharine's College _____________________________________________________ To unsubscribe from the CamPhilEvents mailing list, or change your membership options, please visit the list information page: http://bit.ly/CamPhilEvents List archive: http://bit.ly/CamPhilEventsArchive Please note that CamPhilEvents doesn't accept email attachments.
