Dear all,

Just a reminder about today's meeting of the Moral Sciences Club - the main
event, of course, is Alan Hájek's talk, 'Begging to Differ With Similarity
Accounts of Counterfactuals' (abstract below), but beforehand we'll be
having the *annual photo at 2pm *on the lawn outside the Barbara White
Room, Newnham College*.* If you want to be in the photo, please remember to
come at the earlier time! The rest of the meeting, including the AGM, will
start at the usual time of 2.30 (in the Barbara White Room).

Best,

*Abstract: Begging to Differ With Similarity Accounts of Counterfactuals*

Widespread agreement among philosophers on a given topic is rare. However,
it is enjoyed by similarity accounts of counterfactuals. Roughly, they say
that the counterfactual

if *p* were the case, *q* would be the case

is true if and only if

at the nearest *p*-worlds, *q* is true.

I disagree with such accounts, for many reasons.
