Dear all,

The final meeting of the Moral Sciences Club for this year will be this
Tuesday, May 19th, at 2.30-4.30pm when Alan Hájek (ANU) will give a talk
entitled 'Begging to Differ With Similarity Accounts of Counterfactuals'
(abstract below). The meeting will be in the *Barbara White Room*, Newnham
College. This meeting will begin with the Club's AGM, where we'll approve
the accounts and elect new secretaries for the coming academic year.

In addition, the Club's annual photo will be taking place immediately
before the meeting at *2pm*, on the lawn outside the Barbara White Room.
All members are warmly invited to appear in the photograph. If you wish to
be in the photo, please arrive in plenty of time!

For those who have not paid an annual subscription, there is a small charge
for attendance at the meeting (£2 students/£3 others). As always, after the
meeting, everyone is invited to come to the philosophy faculty for a cup of
tea and a final (for this year) Moral Sciences Club Biscuit.

Hope to see many of you there!

Best wishes,

Ali Boyle and Matthew Simpson

*Abstract: Begging to Differ With Similarity Accounts of Counterfactuals*

Widespread agreement among philosophers on a given topic is rare. However,
it is enjoyed by similarity accounts of counterfactuals. Roughly, they say
that the counterfactual

if *p* were the case, *q* would be the case

is true if and only if

at the nearest *p*-worlds, *q* is true.

I disagree with such accounts, for many reasons.
