Dear all,

The next meeting of the Moral Sciences Club will take place at
2.30pm-4.15pm on Tuesday 12th May, in the Sidgwick Hall at Newnham College.
Our speaker is Hannes Leitgeb (LMU Munich) who will be giving a talk
entitled "On mathematical structuralism. A theory of unlabeled graphs as
ante rem structures" (abstract below)

There is a small charge for attendance: £2 for students and £3 for others.

Also, we'd like to inform you in advance of the Moral Sciences Club
photograph and AGM. These will take place just before and at the beginning
of our last meeting of the year, on Tuesday 19th May. The photograph will
be taken at *2pm* so if you want to appear in it please arrive in plenty of
time. The photo will be taken on the lawn outside the Barbara White room,
Newnham College (where we will be having the meeting anyway). We will then
begin our meeting at 2.30pm, which will begin with the AGM at which we
elect the secretaries for next year and approve the Club's accounts. After
that the meeting will continue as usual, until 4.30pm. We will send out
final details for the event next week, so keep an eye out for those - they
will also be posted on the Moral Sciences Club website (
http://www.phil.cam.ac.uk/seminars-phil/seminars-msc)

For now, though, we hope to see you this coming Tuesday at Hannes Leitgeb's
talk.

Best wishes,

Matthew Simpson and Ali Boyle

"On mathematical structuralism. A theory of unlabeled graphs as ante rem
structures" (Hannes Leitgeb, LMU Munich)

Abstract: There are different versions of structuralism in present-day
philosophy of mathematics which all take as their starting point the
structural turn that mathematics took in the last two centuries. In this
talk, I will make one variant of structuralism—ante rem
structuralism—precise in terms of an axiomatic theory of unlabeled graphs
as ante rem structures. I will then use that axiomatic theory in order to
address some of the standard objections to ante rem structuralism that one
can find in the literature.
