FROM: Riana Betzler <[email protected]> SUBJECT: REMINDER! EMPATHY WORKSHOP CFP DEADLINE APPROACHING MARCH 15! DATE: 11 March 2015 17:55:36 GMT TO: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] Dear all, Hope you are looking forward to a relaxing break! This is just a reminder that abstracts for the empathy & interpretation workshop I am organising are due in on March 15! See below for more information: I am organising a workshop, alongside some academics from INSEI (an interdisciplinary network on sympathy, empathy, and imagination), on “Empathy and Interpretation Across the Disciplines,” which will take place on 13-14 July 2015. We would like to invite you to submit abstracts (roughly 250 words) for 20-minute talks. There will be a full day specifically reserved for student talks so please do join in! It should be a great couple of days to mingle and discuss works in progress in the July sunshine. The aim of the workshop is to explore some of the connections between the various different conceptualisations of empathy/sympathy as they have changed over time (including the early modern concept, Einfühlung, and contemporary empirical psychological and neuroscientific approaches) as well as how sympathy/empathy might function as a way of understanding or interpreting other minds. This theme is actually very broad so please submit an abstract even if you don’t think of yourself as researching “empathy, sympathy, or interpretation” directly. Papers on the methodology of the human sciences, philosophy of mind, philosophy of psychology, history of psychology, history of philosophy, aesthetics, and psychoanalysis would all fit very nicely into the theme of the workshop. We would also love to hear from anyone engaged in empirical research on empathy, sympathy, and related concepts such as theory of mind. Please also don’t hesitate to submit abstracts for papers that are still unfinished or “works in progress.” The whole point of the workshop is to generate discussion in a friendly environment so works in progress are most welcome. Attached, you’ll find a poster advertising the event. If you have any questions, please send me an email either at this address ([email protected]) or at [email protected]. Best wishes, Riana
