Dear all, The next meeting of the Serious Metaphysics Group will be next Thursday (March 5th). Alison Fernandes will be talking on 'Propensities for Agent-Based Accounts of Causation' (abstract below). As usual, we'll meet from 1:00 - 2:30pm in the Graduate Common Room in the Philosophy Faculty.
Hope to see you there, Georgie Propensities for Agent-Based Accounts of Causation Huw Price and others defend agent-based accounts of causation: causal relations are what agents need when they decide on one thing in order to achieve another. Price defends this as a perspectival account using subjective probabilities. Less work has been done developing a corresponding objective account. I will consider the prospects for using propensities to do so. I'll argue that such an account can remain philosophically illuminating as an account of causation—provided we use non-causal propensities, those that are temporally symmetric and obey the usual probability calculus. -- Georgie Statham PhD Candidate Faculty of Philosophy University of Cambridge _____________________________________________________ To unsubscribe from the CamPhilEvents mailing list, or change your membership options, please visit the list information page: http://bit.ly/CamPhilEvents List archive: http://bit.ly/CamPhilEventsArchive Please note that CamPhilEvents doesn't accept email attachments.
