Dear all,

The next meeting of the Moral Sciences Club will be on Tuesday 10th
February, from 2.30-4.15pm, in Sidgwick Hall, Newnham College. Our speaker
is Prof Cheryl Misak (Toronto) who will be giving a talk entitled "Ramsey's
Cognitivism: Ethics, Aesthetics, and the Meaning of Life" (abstract below).

There is a charge of £2 (student) or £3 (other) to attend the talk; or to
buy a subscription for the rest of the academic year, it is £7.50 (student)
or £15 (other).

We hope to see you there!

Best wishes,

Matthew Simpson and Ali Boyle

Cheryl Misak -
"Ramsey's Cognitivism: Ethics, Aesthetics, and the Meaning of Life" :

Alasdair MacIntyre and R.M. Hare assert that Ramsey was one of the modern
founders of emotivism. I shall argue that this is a mistaken interpretation
of Ramsey. More importantly, once we understand what Ramsey's position
actually was, we can see how value judgments might be genuine beliefs aimed
at truth.
