Hi all

I am running a seminar on Realism and Idealism, on Wednesdays, from
10.00-11.30, starting on 15 October. If you are interested in attending
this seminar, please read this email, as I am planning to experiment
slightly with the seminar format (it will be somewhere between a lecture
and a discussion group).

The seminar is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students in
philosophy. Students from other faculties are welcome to attend.
(However, if you are a post-doctorate or faculty member and wish to
attend, please email me in advance.)

Each week, there will be assigned primary and secondary reading. The
secondary reading is just for enthusiasts; but everyone who attends the
seminar must do the primary reading. You must also prepare a question,
related to the primary reading to ask at the the seminar.

A typical seminar will run as follows. I will give a 30 minute-ish
presentation on the assigned reading. Someone will then get discussion
started, by asking their prepared question. (If your question is
similar, it would be good to hear yours at this point too.) I will try
to answer the question, and then to open things up to a wider
discussion. However, I will manage the overall discussion so as to make
sure that, at a minimum, everyone gets to ask their question.

The current reading list is available at
http://www.nottub.com/teaching.shtml

The first primary reading is Dummett's `The reality of the past' (1969),
available at http://www.jstor.org/stable/pdfplus/10.2307/4544778.pdf.

If you have any questions about the seminar, then please email me at
tecb2.

Best wishes,

Tim
